One of the most famous towns in California’s Orange County is Anaheim. The city is home to more than just Disneyland, it is also the place where more than 336,000 people reside. Still, Anaheim is best known for its various parks, sporting events and conventions.
Anaheim began as a small settlement for 50 German families in the 1850s. By 1870, Anaheim was incorporated as a city in Los Angeles County. It became a booming center for industry, especially electronics, aircraft parts and canned fruit. In 1955, Walt Disney built his famous park. The Angels Stadium, Honda Center and Anaheim Convention Center followed.
Anaheim’s Mediterranean climate reaches an average of 70 degrees year round. The city does not get much rain and no snow, but cold weather for sporting fun is just a short drive away. Plus, the city is just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. A 20 mile bike trail along the Santa Ana River will take you to the ocean. Additional recreational activities include public golf courses, parks, horse trails and tennis clubs.
Like most cities, Anaheim has a few different neighborhoods to choose from as you eye local real estate. Downtown Anaheim is a popular choice for those who want to be near everything. Downtown features a farmer’s market and promenade. In addition, the neighborhood features museums like the Stoffel House and Mother Colony House. The area around Disneyland is also popular for those who love the park.
Anaheim is the epitome of a tourist town that has been master planned along the years. Tourism is centered around the Disney park, hotels and shops but there is certainly more than meets the eye.
